Every ER prioritizes injuries from severe to minor, and this is called the triage system. Types of Common Sports Injuries
There are two types of sports injuries: acute and chronic.
This type of sports injury occurs suddenly. It is usually associated with trauma, such as when falling or crashing into another player.
Some of its symptoms can include sudden severe pain, swelling, visible dislocation, and the inability to move normally. However, if the injury is internal, it may not cause any obvious symptoms.
This type of sports injury can occur after you play a sport or exercise regularly over an extended period of time using certain repetitive motions. This is common for players who do endurance-type sports like swimming, running, cycling, and playing tennis. Some of its symptoms include a pain when performing the activity and a constant dull ache when at rest.
The following are examples of common chronic injuries associated with playing sports:
- Stress fractures
- Shin splints
- Heel inflammation
Anyone can develop a chronic injury from a sports game or exercise, but some factors increase the risk, including:
- Accidents (untreated injury)
- Poor training practices
- Improper gear
- Being out of condition
- Not warming up before playing
- Not cooling down after playing
